The code encodes a standard WIFI: string carrying the security type (T), network name (S), password (P), and a hidden-network flag (H). Both iOS and Android camera apps recognize this format natively: scanning shows a 'Join network' prompt, and one tap connects the phone — no app to install and nothing to type.
Because the password is written into the code itself, the QR code is exactly as sensitive as the password. Display it where you would happily hand the password out — a cafe wall, a meeting room, a guest room — and regenerate the code whenever you change the password, since a WiFi QR code is static.
Hidden networks work too: the hidden flag tells the phone to connect to an SSID it cannot see in the scan list, which normally requires fiddly manual setup.
